When creating an ID card, aspects such as colour, design and layout can sometimes take precedence over the most important element, the security. Without a card security feature, anyone with access to any ID card printer could make a convincing copy of your card.
All Magicard ID card printers have a built-in card security feature – HoloKote, which prints a secure watermark on the card’s surface.
Both the Magicard Rio Pro and Helix offer the option of customising this watermark to your organisation’s unique logo or security design, tiled or stretched across the card.

Holokote
Added security at no extra cost
HoloKote, patented by Ultra Electronics, is a secure watermark that is printed on to the card surface during the normal print cycle using standard consumables (ribbons and cards).
The HoloKote image is frosted into the clear overcoat application of the standard print process resulting in a watermark like layer that can be visually verified when the card is tilted in the light. With all Magicard direct-to-card printers, the user can select from four standard secure HoloKote designs using the printer driver.

Holopatch
Enhanced visual security
HoloPatch cards have a highly reflective gold ‘super diffuser’ seal. When the HoloKote watermark is printed on to the seal, the watermark becomes clearly visible under all lighting conditions. HoloKote with HoloPatch has a similar appearance to hologram seals. It provides a distance visible security mark allowing a security guard or colleague to easily verify badge authenticity from a distance of six feet or more.
Custom Holokote Rio Pro
Your own logo as a secure watermark
With the Magicard Rio Pro ID card printer series, users can opt for Custom HoloKote – enabling the implementation of a personalised HoloKote watermark into the standard print process. This watermark could be an organisation’s logo, or some other unique security design.
Activating your secure watermark
For a small one-off cost, an organisation can request their Custom HoloKote from Vision IDZ. Custom HoloKote activation kits can only be generated by Magicard and a secure record of all kits created is kept to prevent counterfeiting and fraud.
A Custom HoloKote activation kit consists of a CD containing the customised design and a unique RFID card. The customised design is loaded from the CD to the flash memory of the printer via a connected PC. The user must then insert the RFID card, tied to that specific custom design, into a special slot in the printer to enable the production of the customised watermark on the ID badge during the print cycle. Without the secure RFID card, the watermark will not be printed.

Custom Holokote Helix
Helix, the World’s first retransfer printer with built-in visual security
The new Helix retransfer printer introduces Ultra ID’s latest visual security breakthrough. An evolution of the famous HoloKote® watermark, HoloKote for the Helix adds a security feature or logo to the card at the point of printing (Patent Pending). Specifically designed to work with the retransfer process, HoloKote for the Helix exploits the wavelengths and lens effect of the retransfer film to fluoresce under UV lighting conditions.
A low cost alternative to expensive custom overlaminates.
HoloKote for the Helix is enabled by using a special YMCKS ribbon in combination with the retransfer film. These ribbons are a fraction of the cost of expensive customised overlaminates, do not require a secondary lamination process and are not subject to the long lead-times and high MOQs of custom overlays.

There are 10 standard designs included with every Helix printer, these are selectable from the printer driver. Any of these 10 designs can be replaced with your own personalised design.
